Objectives and Methodology
To assess and gain feedback on the concept design analysis for the Western Reclamation Project
Total of n=420 questionnaires completed over 2 methodologies:

Q1. What is your overall first impression of the concept plan?
- Concept very well received overall.
- 88% rate concept either excellent or very good.

Q2. How do you rate the concept for a new bridge linking the Western Reclamation to the CBD?
- 88% rate concept either excellent or very good, and 4% rate it poor or very poor.
- Slightly less support from Zone A residents, although 76% are still positive about the proposal.

Q3. What do you think of the concept for the 'spine' along Jellicoe St and North Wharf?
- Slightly fewer rating spine concept 'excellent', but still extremely well received overall, with 87% rating either excellent or very good, and only 5% poor or very poor.

Q4. What is your impression of the proposed reflection pool and stormwater treatment concepts?
85% rating reflection pool and stormwater treatment concepts either excellent or very good.

Q5. A location has been identified on the western end of the spine for a major new public building. What do you think of the concept of a major public building being located there?
- Slightly more spread of opinion on this concept, but still very positive overall, with 77% rating excellent or very good. 9% rated this concept poor or very poor.

Q6. How do you rate the concepts proposed for Wynyard Wharf?
- One third rated this proposal 'excellent' from a total of 78% having a positive opinion of it. Only 6% had any negative feelings towards it.

Q7. The buildings behind North Wharf are proposed to be a location for a fresh fish market with restaurants, bars and entertainment facilities alongside a public plaza. What do you think of this concept?
- With 86% rating either excellent or very good, the market, restaurants and entertainment concept is very well received.

Q8. The concept design provides public access to all water edges except those to be used for marine industrial use. What is your feeling about this concept?
- The concept allowing public access to water edges was extremely well received, with close to two thirds rating it excellent and highly significant 91% rating positive overall.

Q9. What is your impression of the location of the proposed new public parks?
- 84% rated excellent or good.
- Location of public parks also rated very positively, particularly among residents from zone B.

Q10. About 20% of land is proposed for public space. What is your impression of the extent of the land set aside for this purpose?
- Opinions of percentage of land set aside more varied. Two thirds (84%) rate the concept excellent or good.

Q11. How do you rate the proposed mix of uses in the concept plan?
- Although there are more 'good' than 'excellent' ratings for the proposed mix of uses in the concept plan, the total positive ratings is still very high at 73%.
- Residents in Zone C and D are even more favourable towards the concept.

Q12. It is proposed that the Western Reclamation would be serviced by public transport, including ferries, and designed to be pedestrian friendly. What is your reaction to the proposal?
- A significant two thirds consider the public transport servicing concept as excellent, combining to an extremely high 90% having positive ratings. Only 7% are neutral about the concept, and just 3% feel negatively to some degree.

Q13. It is suggested that a new name is needed for the area to reflect its transformation to an attractive waterfront location. The name 'Kahurangi' is proposed, which can be translated as "blue or precious jewel". What is your feeling about this proposed name?
- Opinions are mixed. Just under half (47%) agree that the proposed name is excellent or good, 30% are undecided, while 23% rate it poor or very poor.
- Zone A residents are the least enthusiastic about proposed site name.

Overall Findings
- The concepts proposed for the design of the Western Reclamation Project were received very positively overall (78% rating it good or excellent = 4.1 out of 5 as the mean score)
- There are generally, few differences in appeal of the concepts across respondents residing in the specified zones. Those in zone A were most likely to be slightly less favourable in terms of...
- The bridge linking the reclamation to the CBD
- The spine along Jellicoe Wharf
- The naming of the area 'Kahurangi'
- The least appealing issue is the proposed name - 'Kahurangi', although 47% still rated this 'good' or 'excellent', 30% rated the name 'average', 23% rate it 'poor' or 'very poor'.
