The Joint Waterfront Visioning consultation in early 2005
provided an indication of the community's desires for this
part of the waterfront. In particular the following charts
illustrate the responses to questions about what is important
for the waterfront's future.
The land and any future design concepts for it must respond to a
range of complex macro and micro environmental considerations.
Macro
The site's future role in the central area
Connectivity and public transport requirements
Auckland's urban topography - scale and context
Market factors - economic viability and vitality
Micro
The following site-specific factors also materially informed the design process:
Reclamation and edge conditions
Contamination and hazardous substances
Stormwater
Roading and traffic
Existing uses and ground leases
Scale and shape
Water's edge aspect
Planning Context
The design and planning teams have also had particular regard to the
planning analysis which has been undertaken over the last 10
to 15 years. In particular the following design concepts have had to respond to the
findings of the Auckland Waterfront Advisory Group (AWAG)
process (2002/03), the Auckland City's 11 Principles for
Redevelopment (2003), and the initial consultation outcomes
of the Joint Waterfront Visioning Process (2004/05). |
