The Urban Design Framework proposes
approximately 2.4 km of new public waterfront
access along the entire edge of Wynyard
Quarter, from Viaduct Harbour in the east to
the marine slipways in the west. This will create
a range of distinctive open spaces and also
balance the requirement for public access with
the operational needs of existing marine and
fishing activities.

The proposed Point Park is the most significant
open space within the framework. Its location at
the tip of Wynyard Point emphasises the views and
the relationship between land and water.
Point Park is large enough to accommodate a
possible landmark building in the future and
to host major open-air events. It is comparable in size
to Docklands Park in Melbourne, and includes
a number of 'overflow' areas (Beaumont Plaza,
Wynyard Wharf). |
